Insider guide
Shopping Park Avenue.
The story
Park Avenue is Winter Park's brick-lined main street, and it runs along Central Park. The shopping follows Park Ave from Fairbanks Ave north past Canton Ave to the Morse Museum, with side shops on Canton Ave and Morse Blvd. A few blocks west, Hannibal Square on W New England Ave adds Rifle Paper Co.'s flagship and more boutiques.
The mix is mostly locally owned clothiers, jewelers and a bookstore, with a few brand stores like Southern Tide and Warby Parker. Women's boutiques and menswear sit mostly on South Park Avenue, while the bookstore, a watch dealer and the Morse Museum are on North Park. It suits a slow half day of browsing, lunch and a museum stop.
What to Expect
On South Park Avenue, frank. (112) sells minimalist basics, Current by John Craig (128) and John Craig Clothier (132) dress men from casual to upscale, and Be On Park (152) does designer jewelry and custom gold rings. Further along, Siegel's (330) dresses men and women, Southern Tide (331) sells preppy polos and resort wear, and Bobbles + Lace (348) has affordable, trend-driven dresses. Tuni is just off the avenue at 143 W Fairbanks Ave for luxury and trend-led women's clothing.
On North Park Avenue, Almut Belote Jewelry (216) is a goldsmith's studio for solid-gold bracelets, rings and pendants, and Writers Block Bookstore (316) hosts regular author events. The building at 329 N Park holds Dear Jane (clothing, jewelry and candles), Orlando Watch Company and Trade Routes Collective. Rieker Shoes and Gasp Gifts sit side by side on E Canton Ave, and Pop Us! Collectibles & Toys is on E Morse Blvd. At the north end, the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art holds the most comprehensive collection of Louis Comfort Tiffany's work. In Hannibal Square, Lauren Sigman Collection sells colorful gemstone jewelry.
Best Time to Visit
Most shops don't post hours in the Chamber directory, so plan on daytime retail hours and call ahead, especially early in the week. Saturday morning is a good time to come: start at the Winter Park Farmers' Market, then walk over to Park Avenue. Two free festivals take over the street, the Sidewalk Art Festival in March and the Florida-artists-only Autumn Art Festival in October.
If You Only Have an Hour
Start at Writers Block Bookstore, then walk up to Dear Jane and Orlando Watch Company at 329 N Park. Walk south to Be On Park and John Craig Clothier. Finish with a coffee and bagged beans at Barnie's Coffee & Tea Co..
Where to Eat
Two restaurants are right on the street. Prato is Brandon McGlamery's rustic-chic room for wood-fired pizzas and pumpkin arancini, and AVA MediterrAegean serves Cycladic-inspired shared plates and pistachio baklava. Ômo by Jônt is the splurge, with three tasting menus that pair French technique with Japanese ingredients. West on Fairbanks Ave, The Ravenous Pig (565) does Southern-leaning pub food beside the Petrakis brewery, and Soseki (955) is a ten-seat omakase counter.
