Insider guide
Shopping Mills 50.
The story
Mills 50 is named for the crossing of Mills Ave and Colonial Dr (SR 50), just north of downtown, and it is home to one of Florida's largest Vietnamese communities. The shopping runs up N Mills Ave from Colonial Dr toward Virginia Dr and east along E Colonial Dr, with a couple of shops on Lang Ave and Woodward St just off Mills.
Asian grocers, bakeries and a food hall line E Colonial, while N Mills has a record shop, thrift, a meadery, a running store and small menswear. It suits food-led browsing and anyone who likes to dig through bins and aisles.
What to Expect
On N Mills, Colonial Photo & Hobby (634) has sold camera gear for more than 60 years. North of Colonial, Dong A Supermarket (816), Orlando's oldest Asian grocery, stocks Vietnamese herbs, Korean banchan and Chinese sauces. Lacastro (1011) sells Brazilian-made swimwear and resort wear, Track Shack (1104) fits running and walking shoes, and Zymarium Meadery (1121) pours nearly 30 meads on tap. Remix Record Shop (1213) is a short walk up, and Out of the Closet (1349) is a charity thrift for clothing, housewares and furniture. Just off Mills, The House on Lang is a family-run boutique in a converted bungalow, and Qreate Coffee runs latte art workshops.
Along E Colonial, Mills Market (1110) is a food hall in the former Tien Hung Market with counters for Korean BBQ, Japanese curry, udon and banh mi. Sampaguita Ice Cream + Bakeshop (1233) and Haan Coffee (1235) are next door to each other. Farther east are Bakery 1908 (2021) for dim sum and baked goods, iFresh Market (2415), a renovated Asian supermarket with fresh seafood and ramen kits, and Dechoes Resale (2515) for used designer clothing.
Best Time to Visit
Hours vary by shop, so check before you go. Track Shack keeps Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and is closed Sundays. Dong A's aisles are tight, so go on a weekday and bring cash. The bars and the meadery run into the evening.
If You Only Have an Hour
Start at Dong A Supermarket, then walk north to Zymarium Meadery (1121) for a flight and Remix Record Shop (1213). Finish on E Colonial with ube ice cream at Sampaguita (1233) and a Korean latte next door at Haan Coffee.
Where to Eat
Mills Market holds UniGirl, William Shen's onigiri counter, where lines form before opening and the barbecued eel is a favorite, and Bánh Mì Boy, with crispy pork belly and a pho-broth French dip. Zaru, at the same address, makes udon from Kagawa-grown wheat. On N Mills, Strand (807) is a small corner spot in an Art Deco building for seasonal Southern-leaning plates, and Tori Tori (720) is a yakitori izakaya that takes no reservations. Kaya serves a modern Filipino tasting menu built on local seafood.

Keep exploring
If you liked this block of the city, try these next.
Downtown
Orlando's central business district around Lake Eola, with Church St and Orange Ave on the west and the brick streets of Thornton Park on the east side of the lake. Retail is thin; the draws are the Sunday farmers market, galleries and a handful of specialty shops. Up Orange Avenue, Ivanhoe Village on the shore of Lake Ivanhoe adds antique, vintage and import shops between bars and restaurants.
This week
Audubon Park
A locally owned Main Street district between Winter Park, Leu Gardens and downtown, built around the East End Market food hall and a short run of record, vintage and garden shops on Corrine Drive. It suits food-first browsing and anyone hunting vinyl, vintage or Florida-made gifts.
This week
College Park
A bungalow neighborhood just northwest of downtown whose Main Street, Edgewater Drive ("the Drive"), mixes gift shops, a record store, boutiques and a long-running bike shop with cafes and wine bars. It suits a relaxed local errand-and-lunch outing rather than a full shopping day.
